Crayola Reduces Carbon Footprint Further with Solar Power
The world famous crayon maker, Crayola, has kicked off plans to build a new Solar Power facility on 15 acres of adjacent land. The new solar power facility is expected to house 26,000 solar panels with a production of 1.5 megawatts of electricity produced. Crayola has partnered with PPL Corporation of Allentown and UGI Energy Services Inc. of Reading in a deal where the two forementioned companies will build and maintain the facility and Crayola has agreed to purchase 100% of the power produced.
The solar plant is expected to come online in early 2010 and offset 10% of Crayola’s electricity.
Crayola has already taken many steps to go green and reduce it’s dependence, by decreasing its consumption of natural gas by 19%, electrical usage by 11% and waste by 40%. In fact, Crayola recycles roughly 70% of its waste currently.
